02-15-03 If you haven't already, scoot back over to Whatsonstage for a final wrap up of the Olivier winners, their speeches and some photos, including one of Mr. Bourne. For those lucky enough to reside in the UK, the ceremony is being aired this evening on BBC2 at 8:30pm and will include highlights of the theatre season. Don't know if that includes any clips of Play Without Words or Bourne's Nutcracker!, but it's worth checking out all the same. Another tidbit on Van Helsing, this time from a scooper for Dark Horizons who says "a small controversy seems to be brewing" regarding the use of a famous church in the city center where filming is now taking place. Allegations of "flagrant violations" have been made with the promise of "heavy fines and lawsuits" to follow. Yikes! Check out the intrepid Garth Franklin's Dark Horizons site for more on that story. And yay!! Will's name appeared a couple of days ago in the Los Angeles Times in an article about the movie, "Chicago": The new interest in musicals isn't limited to books and lyrics. Theatre performers are being tapped for nonmusical film roles. Patrick Wilson, the Broadway star of "Oklahoma!" and "The Full Monty," has been cast in a leading role in the historical epic "The Alamo." Will Kemp, a principal from the ballet "The Car Man," is co-starring in the monster movie "Van Helsing." (Our thanks to Barry, for the heads up on this piece.) Lovely weekend all!! 02-14-03 AND THE WINNER IS --- MATTHEW BOURNE FOR PLAY WITHOUT WORDS Hot off the press! The winners for this year's Laurence Olivier Awards have just been announced and we are thrilled down to our toes to let you know that Matthew Bourne has picked up Best Entertainment and Best Choreographer; two of the five awards for which 'Play' was nominated. Whatsonstage has all the particulars but check back here tomorrow as we hope to have more goodies to share with you. Congratulations to the amazing Matthew Bourne, and of course to his incredibly gifted cast and crew. Happy Valentines Day Everyone!
02-28-03 I was about to call it quits for the week as I didn't have anything really newsworthy to post, but while messing around a bit with Car Man photos, I came across this one and as everyone is so eager for new items, I decided to share it now; hopefully it is new to most. Paint me the over-the-top fan if you must, but I really do think Will has one of the most incredibly expressive faces - definitely not just another pretty face in the crowd. P.S. If you are a collector - the February 18-24 print edtion of The Hollywood Reporter has the Van Helsing creature artwork in small poster pull-outs. Enjoy your weekend everyone - fingers crossed for news next week!! 02-26-03 Man Wanted!! That sign pretty much says it all......doesn't it though? Well, we will leave you to your own thoughts on the matter, but we wanted to give you a taste of things to come in March with this teaser photo of Will in the role of the sweet, vulnerable Angelo who turns into the tormented avenger by play's end in the sexually charged, dazzingly choreographed and remarkable, Matthew Bourne take on Bizet's Carmen. Perhaps too many adjectives? Well, you should be use to that by now.... besides, we only speak that which is true. And in our flurry of excitement in posting all those photos of the devastating Mr. Cooper, we neglected to give you Part Three of the Swan Lake Storyboard. So here you go... mind you, things are starting to get a little out of control for the Prince, while the Queen retains her icy demeanor and a tragedy looms ever closer. 02-24-03 Technically, it's still the 23rd where I live, but it's the 24th in London and since this update is about a Londoner, it works for me. In any case, my but it has been quiet on the Van Helsing front and even quieter on the Will front. Trust me, I share in your frustration. But you gotta know, one of these days we will hit the jackpot and we'll all laugh about these lean times! Yeh, right! *wink* Hang in there gang! So, in the meantime, could I tempt you with an altogether different kind of sexy, gorgeous dancer - a friend and colleague of Will's? Well, coincidences abounded this weekend because as I was doing the next batch of screen caps, Adam Cooper was in them and I thought, I really should do a quick photo spread of this guy. Well, it ended up being more than just a page, but when you see the photos, you will see why I got carried away in the work. Then, today, as I was making my last 'news round', I found on the ballet.co.uk site that Adam had just launched his official website. Finally, and pinch me as for once I am in the right city, Adam and dancers from the English National Ballet will be performing here in Washington, DC next month as part of the International Ballet Festival at the The Kennedy Center. Listen to me - if you live anywhere remotely close to DC you must find a way to see this guy up close and in person. Not only is he mesmerizing to watch dance, but he is just plain mesmerizing! Two thumbs up, wayyyyyy up!! 02-19-03 We're digging out on the east coast but also digging around the net in search of news. We don't have anything to top Monday's eye-popping preview of Van Helsing at the moment, but hopefully these small items will tide you over. First, speaking of the Van Helsing preview, Lauren over at Daily Digest gave us a link to some wallpaper she put together for all those deliciously scarey creatures. Thanks Lauren. And a thank you also goes out to Typhon24 at countingdown.com for the site mention and the link. We're official in an unofficial kind of way! There is another fan review on Mindhunters over at Dark Horizons, again positive. Sure like to know what's up with the delay after hearing so many positive viewings. File this under things that make you go hmmmmm...or grrrrrrrrrr... I have put up the second storyboard for Swan Lake which brings the prince into adulthood and also includes one new photo of Will. And yes, I put the 'cheeky' photo in again. Can't help myself.....I mean c'mon!! I also found two photos of Will dancing as one of the Big Swans that I hadn't posted before. Don't know about you, but I can never see enough of Will dancing as a swan.....well, of dancing anything!! Finally, I have started on a new section for Matthew Bourne (even though I haven't finished his index page...the index page just isn't as fun as this other stuff). This new section will look at various of his productions and how he puts them together. This first production I am presenting to you is one from the very beginnings of Adventures in Motion Pictures, a company he helped put together in 1987. This piece is called Spitfire and Matthew not only choreographed it, but also danced in it. The piece was inspired by men posing in underwear advertisements!! How can you not love a guy so clever?? (And quite fetching in the production photo as well, don't you think?). 02-17-03 It's snowy and cold here in Washington, DC right now...an actual blizzard. But that's not what's giving us the chills. Head over right this very minute to Van Helsing online and see for yourselves. It's short, but it packs a punch and it has us really psyched for what's yet to come. We have no idea which site got this first, but AICN, CHUD, comingsoon.net, and countingdown.com all have little bits on it. And thanks to Nic for emailing me at the very befitting and bewitching hour of midnight as I was working on screen caps, to let me know "it's here! it's here!". From monsters to swans, check out William Yong's site for some exclusive Swan Lake and Cinderella photos. Will can be found in three of them. A big thank you to Laura for sharing this link with us. It's much appreciated. We've given you most of the Swan Lake screen caps with Will in the forefront, now it's time to wrap up the show in its entirety over the next couple of weeks. We are doing this storyboard fashion, basically for those who have not seen this particular production. So, if you care to, please check our part one of Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake.
02-13-03 Tomorrow's the big day - at least for the UK's equivalent of the Tonys. The Oliviers will be announced and remember, Matthew Bourne's Play Without Words is up for five big ones. 'Play Without Words' was the first production of his New Adventures company; Bourne having parted ways with Adventures in Motion Pictures earlier in 2002. All of our fingers and toes are crossed and we're sure Will is out there doing the same. Bourne is hoping to bring 'Play' back later this year and perhaps Will, whose calendar should be clear of Van Helsing by then, might just saddle up for another ride - our conjecturing, not rumor or fact! Please check out the articles section for a refresher on this truly innovative production. And also, while on the topic of Mr. Bourne, please check out the new biography that we have nearly completed. Whew! The tazmanian devil has nothing on this man. And speaking of revivals, rumor has it that Wind in the Willows is also going to be back at the Royal Opera House this Christmas. We heard this from someone inside the ROH. No word on which cast members might return. One scoop, no sprinkles on top - a scooper over at AICN has seen some artwork for Van Helsing which leads him to believe it will be a 'really big show'; alas no pretty pictures to share with us....and so we wait....
02-11-03 More screen captures - get 'em while they're hot! Speaking of hot, this particular 'grab' (and we wish we could) gets a page to itself. Very cheeky! 02-10-03 Earning those frequent flyer miles. A kind soul at Julian Belfrage Associates (Will's UK agent) confirmed to me this morning that Will is currently back and forth between Prague and London as he films his bits in Van Helsing. We thank you very much indeed for helping us clear up the whereabouts of Mr. Kemp and the shooting location of VH. I have added another 'Will' excerpt from the Cinderella section of Matthew Bourne's book. This one regards the differences between Will's and Adam Cooper's approach to the character of the Pilot. And from that same book, I happily share with you a photo of Bourne in his early dancing days. So much to show, so much to tell..... 02-08-03 She shoots, she scores. Our pal Nic from JL delivers big time. Nic, you just never cease to amaze us! Speaking of big, they don't get much bigger in the world of dance than this guy. We, ourselves have danced (yuk, yuk), around this idea for awhile now. So check out our new project. We promise it won't interfere with our quest to provide you with everything we can beg, steal or borrow (well, maybe not steal) on the heartstopping Mr. Kemp. A few more Swan Lake screen captures coming soon and shortly after, we will start with The Car Man. 02-05-03 It's a bit quiet on the Will front these days, but we did see a couple small bits on Van Helsing pop up in print magazines. This month's issue of Empire Magazine listed VH as one of the big movies for 2004, projecting a box office of 425 million. And Xpose magazine offered a small mention of the movie along with a rather dishy photo. As you will see, it's not of Will. But you won't find us minding in the least bit as this guy is pretty darn hot as well.
02-01-03 Imagine being able to look outside your office window everyday and see one of Will's Gap ad photos covering the entire side of a building, bigger than life! A dream? Not according to Nic over at Jackman's Landing. She has seen it with her own eyes on a building in West Hollywood. Says Nic, "You can't miss it!" She will try to get a photo for us. Yowsa! We love you Nic!! Thanks for sharing this amazing find with us. And we certainly need it to soften the blow as we advise you that upcomingmovies , comingsoon.net and countingdown.com all indicate Mindhunters' release date has been pushed back to January 9, 2004........gut punch!! Thus, we think it best to move quickly on to the next item - Van Helsing. aint-it-cool-news has the scoop on a new cast member, british actor Samuel West, who will make a brief appearance in the film as Dr. Frankenstein. Without fail, everytime we hear the words Dr. Frankenstein, we immediately think of Gene Wilder and Young Frankenstein - pronounced Fron-ken-shteen....and hear the sound of horses whinneying everytime the name Frau Bleucher - the delightful Cloris Leachman - is mentioned. Yes, we digress. But shoot - it's one of our favorite flics! Oh and Harry - thanks for the link. Will dukes it out. More photos from Swan Lake. With that, we will catch ya later.....visions of Will's face covering the entire side of a building have us a bit light-headed. ******** On a serious note - It wasn't easy updating the site today after this morning's tragic event. I remain stunned and saddened, as I am sure you all are, over the catastrophic loss now felt by so many. On behalf of Lily and myself, our hearts, along with our thoughts and prayers, go out to the families, friends and colleagues of the Space Shuttle Columbia crew.
