June 28th:

Bigger than life. How about this for a room divider?

Will and his mates are keeping busy not just on stage but off. Will's agenda includes a big old birthday party which will be held the day after his actual birthday. A select number of very lucky fans will be there to share it with him. It will be held in the foyer of the theatre on the evening of June 30th.  Then on July 5th, Will and Etta will host a post-performance Q&A session. Finally on July 8th Will, along with other cast members, don kimonos for one last special fan event.  This, along with a couple more parties in their honour, and it's no wonder they love Japan and the fans so much!

Oh, there is one last thing - an auction. You may recall that in an earlier post I had mentioned the chance to win the shirt off of Will's back.
Well here it is!

My thanks to
Mitori.

June 27th:

Opening night for Highland Fling was a smashing success. The audience went wild for the show and its cast and wouldn't leave the theatre even after the lights went up. They continued cheering until the cast was brought back from their dressing rooms for more curtain calls. How cool is that?  Incidentally, Will danced James to Kerry Biggin's Sylph on opening night.

Cosmopolitan Japan did an interview with Will - here are two photos from the article.

Made in Japan - the
Will Kemp postcard.  You've gotta love this!

Thanks to Meg and Non for the photos and postcard image.

June 23rd:

Stumbled across this interview from The Japan Times dated 08 June. There  are some interesting comments about his Royal Ballet School training and early experiences with Matthew's company.

As well, a few more
photos in from various Japanese magazines.

June 20th:

I have it on good authority that Will, Matthew and the Company have arrived safe and sound in Tokyo. They've got a day off (some have headed straight to shopping I've heard) and Will to a live TV appearance. I hope to have more for you as their tour unfolds, including the scoop on a special birthday party...

As you can see, Will's performance schedule has gone missing.  My apologies for any inconvenience, but it became necessary for me to remove it due to the possibility of last minute changes and to avoid any ensuing confusion or disappointment.

To all of you going to the show(s), have a fantastic time.  You are really and truly in for a marvelous treat.

June 14th:

The
Highland Fling cast are back together this week, preparing for their upcoming trip to Japan where they open on 23 June. A special reminder to all of our Japanese friends who will be at the performances --- Will is celebrating a birthday during this tour. He turns 28 on the 29th. So please be sure to wish him a very, very Happy Birthday! from all of us.

You will find our birthday boy featured prominently in yet another upcoming publication. Let me put it this way. The next
NewFriends newsletter is a
Will Kemp fan's dream. So, if you are not yet a member of
Friends, it's not too late to join. Actually it's never too late to join.  But if you want this particular issue sooner rather than later and trust me you do, click here.

Well hello
Edward Scissorhands! If you happen to have dropped by matthewbourne.org this weekend, you were the first anywhere in the world to get the inside scoop that this long awaited production is now truly on the fast track. An official press release from New Adventures is due shortly, the upcoming NewFriends newsletter will have info for us and of course, I will be poking my nose around as usual. So bookmark mb.org to keep up-to-date on all future developements.

Now how's this for pretty sweet?  The latest issue of
Dance Now magazine  features a who's who of Wk.Org's 'Swoon Hall of Fame' including Will, Matthew Bourne, Adam Cooper and Sarah Wildor. Will is featured, along with Kerry Biggin, in a review of Highland Fling  (see photo).  There is an
A to Z interview with Matthew.  Sarah is the cover girl for the issue and husband Adam tells us all about his Liaisons, which as you know, brought the house down in Japan earlier this year and is poised to do the same in London next month. Don't fret if this magazine is not carried where you live. You can purchase it through
Dance Books. However, they have not yet updated their online Dance Now page as it still has the previous issue listed.  The issue to request is Vol. 14 No. 2 Summer 2005 with Sarah Wildor on the cover.
And please, everyone thank Mandy for sharing this great find.

June 10th:

It's get away Friday.....so here are
three for the road.

June 6th:

The good Will ambassador.  Whilst in Japan this last April, Will autographed a
poster and souvenir card which brought in 32,500 yen (about $300.00) for a charity auction being held to aid victims of last year's earthquake in Japan.

My friend
Mitori has news of another auction to take place when
Highland Fling
heads to Japan later this month. Not sure if it's for charity or just for lucky fans.  All the same, how would you like a chance to own one of Will's t-shirts?  Oh my. That should cause a stir. Mitori also advises that
Will and Etta Murfitt
will hold a post performance talk on July 5th. Please see Mitori's site for more details.

Be sure to check out
Ginko's site for more photos from Will's visit to Japan in April, as well as some candid shots from the Swan Lake and
Play Without Words
casts during their previous tours. Click on the
Special Presents
and Dream Park links.

New Adventures
has opened their own little gift shop.  First items up for sale are twelve brilliant design sketches from Lez Brotherston's Highland Fling collection. Window shop or make a purchase. Details on the site.

You know how I love when people send in those
'Swoons'.  Well, I've got another hot one for you.  This dancer may have played a swan but he is no bird of a feather. When he bursts out onto the stage, your jaw literally drops. You will be lucky to remember to close it up when he has left the stage.  Enough said. Bring him on. Welcome to the 'Hall of Fame', Jason Piper.

June 3rd:

Will strikes a pose in fashion mags
In Red and Star Style hits the yoga mat in Eyescreem; and rehearsals in Look - page 1, page 2
