| March 28th: Keeping up with Kemp. Another performance update for those hoping to see Will dance in the next couple weeks, as well as for those of us who just plain want to know. This week's schedule for Salford, Manchester was posted previously. Next week, for those lucky to be in or around Newcastle, his dates are as follows: Newcastle - Tuesday 05 April - evening Thursday 07 April - evening Friday 08 April - evening Saturday 09 April - matinee Will then takes a week off from the show and travels to Japan to promote it. Included in the press tour is a 'Japanese Fan Event' on 14 April at the Tokyo Tower at 7pm, and the opening of the "Highland Fling cafe" in the Marunouchi building with actress Yu Kashii. Hopefully some good photos and video clips will become available to post. Will shall rejoin HF in Brighton for his final UK appearance before starting rehearsals for 'The Soldier's Tale'. So, a very busy guy. If you've not been by the Japanese Highland Fling website recently, they have added a couple short clips of the show. Alas, Will is not in either of them, though his photo is featured. Let's hope they shoot some new footage when the production is in Japan. I'd love for everyone to have the chance to see Will dance James, if even only in a brief clip. March 22nd: Will's peformance schedule for Salford is up: Tuesday, 29 March - evening Wednesday, 30 March - evening Thursday, 31 March - matinee Saturday, 02 April - matinee Have a great time to all who are going; hopefully more than once. It's a full house. Word from Jane at Adam Cooper.com is that Mr. Cooper is now firm for 'The Soldier's Tale', along with Zenaida. So the dream team is officially back together again. Buy your tickets early. Sell out is certain. Speaking of dream teams, Will may be part of a few other dream teams before the year is over. He gives us the lowdown on future projects, being back with New Adventures, working on Highland Fling and why he missed so much rehearsal time. Click here. March 21st: Two more pages from the Sadler's programme. Spring is around the corner and so is the spring edition of the NewFriends newsletter. It's at the printers at this moment but I've got the inside scoop on what's up. Check out the news on Matthew's site for more information. And in case you weren't aware of this, Will's dad Barry designs and produces the newsletter. Also, 'Play Without Words' is in New York right now. Saw it myself this weekend and the audiences and critics are eating it up. If you are in or near the area, don't miss it. Click here for more information. And if you live in Los Angeles, it is headed your way in April. Click here for that info. March 18th: It looks good for Will to reprise his dual role of The Narrator/King when William Tuckett's 'The Soldier's Tale' comes back for an all too brief run at the Linbury Studio Theatre, May 11 through May 14. Matthew Hart is firm for the production and hopefully Zenaida Yanowsky and Adam Cooper will be back as well. Check out the ROH site for booking details. So, if this is correct, we've got another year to save up our pennies for a trip to London to see Edward Scissorhands. According to Playbill, the show will open at Sadler's Wells in June of 2006. I've not heard a definitive word from New Adventures so I don't know if this is accurate or not. I do know that Lez Brotherston has begun design work and I've read that Danny Elfman has been working on the score. You know, it's kind of like waiting for Christmas morning when you're a kid.....it feels like it's never going to be morning. But boy is it ever worth the wait. Speaking of waiting, Mindhunters has a new release date. There had been so many that I stopped reporting them. But this one just might stick. We are looking at May 27th in the USA and June 17th in the UK. March 17th: More reasons why we love watching Will dance - Exhibits Two to Seven. I particularly like that last photo. Gotta love that set design.....and of course 'our James' sprawled in the urinal. For more photos please visit Matthew's site. There are some especially wonderful photos of the Sylphs, but one of my favorites is the Taro reading. Everytime I see Adam Galbraith with that wild hair and in his red plaid 'garanimals', I can't help but laugh. What a great production. March 16th: Why we love to watch Will dance - Exhibit One. More exhibits tomorrow. March 14th: To start your week off right, a few more rehearsal photos have been added. Also, the first two pages from the Sadler's programme have been posted. These are my favorites because they show off the fantastically fun costume designs of the incomparable Lez Brotherston. Speaking of which, I did get the distinct pleasure and honour of interviewing him whilst I was there. He is really quite something. The article will appear in a future Ballet.co magazine. March 10th: More fabulous photos from Sadler's......click here! Also, if you've had a problem playing that rehearsal video on Media Player, Mitori found this link. It's a much smaller version of the clip, but it may work better for you and that's the important thing. Thanks Mitori. March 9th: A sneak peek at one of the rehearsal photos which will be posted next week. My thanks again to Roy Tan who captured all these great photographs. Am I the luckiest girl or what? More of the photos from that first night photo call are forthcoming and my conversation with Will and the programme will appear next week. March 8th: Waiting on pins and needles for Will to arrive in Woking and Wimbledon? Your wait is almost over and so is the suspense as to which shows he has been cast in: Woking - Tuesday, 15 March, evening Wednesday, 16 March, matinee Friday, 18 March, evening Saturday, 19 March, matinee Wimbledon - Tuesday, 22 March, evening Thursday, 24 March, evening Friday, 25 March, evening Saturday, 26 March, matinee If you've got a ticket to any of these performances then you are holding on to a winning lottery ticket. Have a great time. (Nice to see Will with an extra performance added in as well). There was a rather nice article on Will in the Mail's Sunday magazine, 'Night and Day'. I left out two photos (one from this past GAP campaign and another from 'Play Without Words' as they are already on this site. Please read away. My thanks to Michelle for the scan! I am still working on photos and transcriptions but here is a real treat whilst you wait. Check out Roy Tan's website for some very nice Highland Fling images. Beautiful, Roy. And from Japan, here is an intriguing new poster of Will as part of the HF promotion. Finally, the girls over at the Japanese Will Kemp fansite have (perhaps) a first look for some of you - Will in his kilt.......need I say more? March 7th: The Sadler's Wells run of Highland Fling was an exciting and resounding success. I have several things to share with you over the next couple of weeks; just need time to get it all together. To start you off for the moment, here are the first of a series of Roy Tan's stunning photographs from Tuesday's photo call. Unfortunately for we Will Kemp fans, Will was not in that photo shoot as it was of the first night cast. But they are great shots and give you a fabulous look at the set, the costumes and the Company. There is some talk of a possible second photo call with Will as James, so I will keep you posted on that one. In any case, I hope to have some rehearsal photos of Will later in the week so don't despair. In the meantime, you can catch Will on video along with Kerry Biggin and Matthew Bourne in a promo interview, as well as some rehearsal footage, and a TV advert from the Japanese website. Below are links to those videos. Broadband and Windows Media Player required. Interview video * Rehearsal video * TV Advert My future updates will include many more photos, scans of the programme and a transcript from Matthew's Q&A after one of the performances. Most important of all, I did get the chance to sit and chat with Will and I shall have excerpts from that conversation to share with you as well. And Will as James? He was brilliant. Hard to believe he missed so much rehearsal time; he was absolutely spot on in all three performances. If you've seen him dance a particular role more than once then you know that he is always changing and experimenting with the little nuances of his character. Every time out is a bit different which makes it seem essential to see every performance - or at least you can use that as a good excuse!! By the way, a couple of Will's Van Helsing mates were there Saturday evening to see him in performance - Richard Roxburgh and (wife) Silvia Colloca. Talk about your stunning couples. I sound like a tabloid journalist but I'm not kidding - gorgeous. One correction from last posting - Will danced two not three performances at High Wycombe. So, everyone stay tuned. And Will......thanks a million. |
