Shakespeare and Cervantes meet at the castle of Loarre.
The castle is this week’s set for the filming session of ‘Miguel & William’

A very mature Miguel de Cervantes and a young William Shakespeare fight for the love of a woman in a creative duel. The movie is called “Miguel & William” and part of its plot develops this week at the castle of Loarre, under the direction of Inés Paris. Actors Juan Luis Galiardo and Elena Anaya star in a love story which also includes almost fifty extras from the shire.

LOARRE.- “This story, Miguel y William, is a love comedy that takes part in the XVIth century and shows how, due to the love of a woman, two great authors, Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare, were pretty close to becoming violent with each other. In a certain moment, they do have a duel, that ends up being a creative one”. “Miguel & William” director, Inés Paris, explained yesterday how the filming for this movie ended up at Loarre, where crew members will work until next Saturday.

Both geniuses, incarnated by Juan Luis Galiardo and  Will Kemp, will ‘face each other’ during this week at this historical fortress for the love of Leonor, played by Elena Anaya. Malena Alterio, Geraldine Chaplin and José María Pou also star in this movie.

And what happens inside the fortress is that “the characters find themselves in the house of a non-existent duke, the Duke of Obando, who keeps the woman, who will become his wife, locked in this place; a free and wonderful woman who loves theatre and lies to both authors so that they may write for her without knowing that she is making two great geniuses work together. It is known that geniuses are very selfish and they seldom work together, but she makes them do it”.

Loarre was selected as a set after a very long search in Spain. Ines París assures that “it was selected because of its great beauty, and most of all because it fit perfectly for the story since it is an insuperable castle, and we wanted our main character, Leonor, to be completely secluded, without being able to leave the castle only through fantasy, which the two authors give her”.

Inés París’ says about her first individual project “a very personal story. More authentic and where I will show everything I think and feel about movies, creation and humour”.

And as humour is a very important factor in her projects, it is also something she loves the most from Cervantes -“even though he was a tremendous critic of his time, and also of his living situation, he knew how to tell his stories with a fascinating humour that makes his readers laugh at first and then think. I love to make people dream and think through laughter and that is why I love Cervantes”.

The story that this movie narrates can be set in any historical moment. “I only tried to see the XVIth century, and the main worries for the creators and women of that particular time, with a great similarity to the real world of today. That is what the movie is about; never ending problems situated in a very nice moment. So it is a luxury to have something that can occur today actually happen at a place such as the castle of Loarre”.
