| GPD IN THE NEWS |
| NOVEMBER 01: GPD have a week left in the first half of their US tour and as you know, they have taken America over lock, stock and barrel. Bravo and well deserved. Just a few notes about what's next for them. This December Michael and Billy team up with the beautiful Sylvie Guillem on a Russell Maliphant commissioned piece to be premiered at the Royal Opera House on December 3rd for six performances. Also on that bill are works by superstar choreographers Mark Morris and Wayne McGregor and superstar dancers like Adam Cooper and Edward Watson. These are the times that try a person when they don't live in London. St. Louis and Chicago have been confirmed for US tour dates in 2004. As noted on an earlier front page news update on this site, GPD was offered revenue funding by the Arts Council England, making history as the youngest company ever to receive such funding. Does that tell you something about how phenominal this company is? They also were awarded this year's Theatrical Management Association Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance. The future belongs to GPD and we are thrilled to be supporters. If you too would like to be a part of this rising star, email info@gpdances.com for more information. Their website is still under renovation, but hopefully will be back up soon. JULY 28: British sensation, choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, loves the Ballet Boyz (of course he does). Read article here. JULY 19: It's here!! The US Tour Schedule. JULY 18: GPD has announced some great news with respect to their comings and goings through the rest of the summer. Much of this pertains to you lucky souls who live in the UK. But happily (more than happily!) there is something for fans (or fans to be) living in the USA to look forward to as well. In the UK, get those VCRs set to record on July 19th, July 26th, August 2nd and August 9th at 7:30pm on Channel 4, as Michael and Billy present a four part series: 4Dance. Please check local listings for any last minute changes. If you've seen either Ballet Boyz I or II, then I don't have to twist your arm. If you've no idea what's so special about GPD, then this is a really good opportunity to find out. Billy and Michael will also be featured on Celebrity Ready, Steady, Cook to be aired on September 16th at 7:30pm on BBC1. Again check local listings. GPD's current production will be at Sadler's Wells, London from September 23rd to September 27th at 7:30pm with a family matinee on September 27th at 2:30pm. They've not listed full details on the production but this much has been released: there will be a world premiere of Christopher Wheeldon's Mesmerics, William Forsythe's Approximate Sonata I,V and a new dance by Cathy Marston with music by John Cage. Also, a great treat for all, Monica Zamora (ex-Birmingham Royal Ballet) and Hubert Essakow (ex-Royal Ballet and K Ballet) will be in the Sadler's Wells season. Now, if you are like me and live in the U.S. and are feeling a million miles away from all this great dance, or just want to find out why I keep talking about these guys, well they really are coming to the U.S. in October and November. I'm hoping to be able to share the dates and cities with you very shortly. So hang tight. One last note, and for me it's a bummer because I was really looking forward to seeing him dance here, but Matt Hart is leaving GPD next week to freelance. He is one of the most charismatic dancers and personalities you will ever come across. I wish him great success - though he hardly needs such wishes - as he is just simply phenominal. Yes, expect a Swoon be be written up down the road. More later - Dani |
